Emigration of Werner family to Brazil

Hi group, this is my first post after learning a lot of my family. My Great grandfather Gottfried Werner, son of Gottfried Werner and Pauline Birkholz, born on 23/8/1896 in Marinkow. He married on 4/7/1922 in Rozhische with Alwine Penno (1898 Marinkow), daughter of August Penno and Rosalia Lange. i Know the hole town of marinkow had to escape from Wolhynia to East Prussia in 1916 and no Germans were left in Marinkow. My question is, Anyone knows anything about them? what happened between 1916 and 1922? His father also named Gottfried and his wife Karoline Hohm sayed in Prussia, why he came back? in 1923 they had his first child, Elsa and in 1925 his sister, Jadwiga. i looked in every passenger list of every ship that had arrived in Rio de Janeiro´s port but i found nothing, not even in the archives of the state, is like they dissapeared from Wolhynia and appeared in Brasil from nowhere. Is possible that they came ilegaly? In my great grandfather´s death certificate is no mention of his nationality or from where he came. I know some Werners went to canada, and a Ludwig who stayed after Gottfried and his family emigrate. i am really lost, is possible that they had obtained Polish citizenship for living there?
