I did a search for your MAIER (MAYER, MEYER, MEIER) family on familysearch.org and found Adolf (who was born on 9 Nov 1894, parents Leonard MAJER and Julianna nee HAUPTSTEIN).

The story about Leonard MAIER leaving Russia with three sons and ending up in California might be only family lore. Adolph seems to have been alone and he settled in Pennsylvania. In his marriage certificate from 1917 he stated that his father's residence is Russia.

Veteran of U.S. Military (WWI). The Family lives next door to Alda's parents (James and Nora BRANT) and probably another daughter of Adolph and Alda: Elnora MIER (11).
