Thanks for the reply Ansgar. Most of what I have is heresay or based on later documents. I don't know what his family name was in Germany or Russia, but he continued to use Manos for the rest of his life. I assume he was single when he arrived in USA because he married my grandmother in 1924.

He put on a form in 1942 that he arrived in America in 1919. I find that odd since he petitioned for naturalization at Camp Upton in 1919 and was naturalized, once again going by what he put on a form in 1942, in 1920 in New York City.

The only reference I have to his hometown is on his naturalization petition and it is listed as Wolen, Russia, which I take to mean Wolhyn. He also claims to have left from the port of Trieste, but I cannot find his name or anything similar on any passenger lists out of Trieste during that period. I don't even know if he went to South America and then ended up in New York later.
