Landenteignung vs. Verbannung

Hi Volker, yes, from my Rosin family I know that my great-grandfather Julius Rosin* fought in WWI for Russia on the Caucasus front.
*His father was Michael.

I think I read somewhere that there was a relationship between if you had a son in the Russian army and if you were expropriated or not, so they may not have been exiled.

From my Hilscher family I know they were sent to the East, a great-grandmother of mine, Justine Pelzer, died there, she died in Dagestan as far as I know, which seems strange to me because I think most of Germans were sent to the Ural area: Orenburg, Ufa (One of my great-grandfathers always talked about Ufa), Chelyabinsk, etc.

So, I think it's possible that the Rosin family were not exiled.

I don't think the Rosin family were ever really considered Dutch, my family's oral tradition was always to say that we were Pomeranians, they spoke German and were (are) Lutheran, they came from the Dabie area to Volhynia, I think it probably had more to do with my great-grandfather Julius being in the army, but I don't rule it out completely, of course.
