I am looking for information on this family line. I am pretty certain this
is the Polish spelling of a German name.

Chonita,

Now that you have discovered that Fröhlich is Wessalowsky / Wesolowski in Polish you are also certain that Bobrowski is the Polish equivalent of a German name. You might be right but I wouldn't be surprised if your Bobrowskis were just Bobrowskis ;-). They may have been German but also of Polish or Baltic or Kashubian roots.

Polish language: bóbr = beaver
Baltic language: bebrus = beaver
Kashubian language: buobrovi = beaver

I did a search on genpol.com for BOBROWSKI. (Click on strony Serwis heraldyczny Ośrodka Dokumentacji Wychodźstwa Polskiego w Pułtusku, then search for Bobrowski, copy the result and go back to the first page, past it into the form, click on Pokaż mapę). Interestingly, most of the Bobrowskis are found in the Voivodeship Gdańsk, region of the Kashubians.

This is only one thing I was stumbling about. The rule of genealogical research remains the same: assume nothing and prove everything. Good luck for your search.

Irene

PS: I still have to uncover the roots of my Volhynian-German g-grandfather Johann, born 1838 in Poland. His family name was BUNKOWSKI - sounds not German to me... ;-)
