Sorry this is in English. I am looking for relatives of / ancestors of Gustav Menke. Gustav on his US Immigration papers says he came to North Dakota via Winnipeg, Canada in 1901 from Alexandria, Russia. I believe Alexandria is near Rowno in Volhynia. Any information on MENKE from Russia (German - Lutheran) would be most appreciated. Danke!!!

1901 from Alexandria, Russia.

This name for a village was very often in the Russian Empire. The former Russian Tsar Alexander was the backround. Have you some more hints about the home region of the family MENKE? Do you know the parents?

Fortunately I have much more information now. Alexandria is 14 km northeast of Rowno, Volhynia. Gustav had a sister named Maria born in Mariendorf which is 16 km NE of Rowno. Their father was Christopher Menke, born in 1831 (not sure where), married first time at age 21 (not sure to who), then married to Emilie Brandt. Christopher Menke had 12 children, 6 were with Emilie, and I do not know about the rest.
Thank you for the reply,
Chris Menke

Hello Chris,

do you know that another name for Mariendorf is Alexandrie?

I had a short look at the Odessa Digital Library and found this.

Children of Christoph Menke and Emilie Brandt:
Manke, Johann / * 6 Jun 1879 in Mariendorf / 1895627/2 604 1304
Menke, Maria / * 30 May 1881 in Mariendorf / 1897596/1 620 1144

Do you have the surename KRAUSE from Mariendorf in your family? My Grandma, birthname KRAUSE, came from Mariendorf.

Sincerely
Michael
