Unfortunately, the Steinke surname is very common so trying to use a phone book would be impossible.

I was not thinking clearly when I mentioned the Canadian phone book in my previous message. Of course we must search for Loerchner, not Steinke.

If you go to http://findaperson.canada411.ca/, you can search for all Loerchner in Canada. As it turns out, there are only 4 of them. All are in Ontario so there is a good chance that they connect to your family.

I was looking info about my great grandfather, Friedrich Kaminski, who was born in Staritzkoje. In my family there are rumors about he changed his family name for some reason (maybe because of repressions in USSR). From this forum I learned that deutsch equivalent family name Kaminski will be Steinke. So I start to look at church books for year 1897 (when he was born) and look any Friedrich and Steinke. And I found it! Friedrich Steinke, 28.01.1897, born in Staritzkoje, father - August Steinke, mother - Christine Steinke (Jesske).
Since Staritzkoje is not that big, maybe they were relatives to your family. Will be glad any info!
