Hello everybody!
I'm new here. I'm looking for my ancestors in Volhynia. My great-great-grandfather was Heinrich Pöhl born in Wandy Wola 10. January 1898. His parents according to his baptism record were Mikhail/Michael Pöhl and Marianna Ikkert/Eckert and his godparents were Johann and Justine Appelt. My great-great-grandmother was Mathilde Friedrich born in Wysoka 8. December 1878. Her parents were according to her baptism record Johann Friedrich and Anna Louise Krüger and her godparents were Martin Domres/Damroske and Justine Höck. Heinrich and Mathilde married 26. September 1912 in Wlodzimierz Wolodymyr, I have not found their marriage record, Agad has none from 1899-1915. Their daughter, Olga my great-grandmother was born 15. June 1913 in Goljarka. They later moved to Lübeck, Schleswig-Holstein and were at least there in 1930, they all lived all of their life there. I have the birthdays and places from Olga's second marriage record in Lübeck. What I want to know is Michael's and Marianna's birthday and parent and siblings if possible and the same for Johann and Anna Louise. I also wanna know the names of Heinrich's and Mathilde's siblings. Does anybody know anything to help me? I'm in Iceland so I can't go to archives in Germany and I'm eager to know everything I can about my ancestors in Volhynia. Greetings from Iceland, Agga

Mathilde Friedrich born in Wysoka 8. December 1878. Her parents were according to her baptism record Johann Friedrich and Anna Louise Krüger and her godparents were Martin Domres/Damroske and Justine Höck.

The Russian entries are very difficult for me to read, and because of that I unfortunately misread some of the names. Thanks to your help, I can now correct this information and continue tracing my family further back.

I have only been researching this part of my German family history intensively for a relatively short time, and the family in Volhynia is particularly difficult for me because the records were kept in different languages and some church books are missing. So I am truly grateful for your help and your knowledge of these sources.

Heinrich kann nicht 1898 geboren worden sein, wenn er 1912 bereits geheiratet hat, ist das ein Schreibfehler? Und in Wandawola finde ich kein Elternpaar mit den von dir genannten Namen Ikkert/Eckert, wohl aber einen Heinrich PAHL *10 Jan 1892 in Wandawola, Vater Michael, Mutter Marianne APPEL. Welches Taufdokument liegt dir vor, wann wurde es ausgestellt und von wem?

Thank you very much. 1898 was my typo; Heinrich was born 10 January 1892. The image you found is actually the same original church-register image that I had found in AGAD. Because it is in Russian, I had apparently misread/transcribed the mother's surname as Ikkert/Eckert. I do not have a separate baptismal certificate giving that surname. ein großer Teil der vorhandenen Kirchenbücher wurden bereits indexiert, den Index kannst du durchsuchen. Versuche verschiedene Schreibvarianten oder Teilwörter, dann erhöht sich die Anzahl der Treffer. Damit kannst du die Geschwister von Heinrich finden und auch die Heirat seiner Eltern im Jahr 1879 im Kirchspiel Rozyszcze.

I can't thank you enough, you have been of so much help. I have difficulty reading it but I see Michael Pöhl, 24, unmarried and Marianna Apel, 24. I think I can see the parents of Michael being Heinrich Pöhl and Anna née Drews and Marianna's parents as Christian Apel and Christine, can't read maiden name. I also can't read any birthdays, birth places or residence if they are in there. Maybe there is something more I'm missing. Since you have been of so much help I wonder if you can read it for me?

deine Vorfahren PÖHL lebten im Kirchspiel Nowy Dwor, bevor sie nach Wolhynien eingewandert sind. Das konnte ich leicht feststellen, weil bereits viele polnische Kirchenbücher bzw. Zivilstndsbücher indexiert wurden.

Thank you so much! I found the four children in Geneteka, but I'm having trouble getting from the index to the actual scans. Every link I try seems to take me back to the main register page. Could you perhaps tell me how to open one of the linked birth records—for example Paulina Pehl, 1862, record 49? Once I understand how to open one, I should be able to find the others myself.

I didn't know how to post to you directly, so I'm just replying to one of your previous posts.

You've been of so much help to me, and I can't even begin to thank you enough.

I have been doing a lot more research on Michael Pöhl and his family in Poland. You were the one who first gave me the information that Michael's first wife was Eva Mejert and that they had four children in Poland. I have now found the original birth records for all four children, confirming the information you gave me.

I have also found marriage records for Michael and three of his siblings — Henryk, Rosalia and Krystina Pöhl. These records confirm that their parents were Heinrich Pöhl and Anna Drewes and that they were born in Brzozówka. I also found Anna Pöhl née Drewes's death record from 1878 in Podlesie.This has made me wonder about something I have not been able to solve. Do you happen to know what happened to Eva Mejert and the four children? Eva was already dead when Michael, as a widower, married Marianna Appelt in Mariendorf in 1879. Their first child was born in Mariendorf in 1880, and their remaining five children were born in Wandy Wola.

Do you know when or where Eva died, and whether Michael's four children with Eva went with him to Volhynia or remained in Poland? I have even wondered whether Eva could have died during the family's journey to Volhynia, although that is only a theory.

I would also be very interested to know where you originally found the information about Eva Mejert and the four children, since everything you told me about them has now been confirmed by the records I have found.

And I have also been wanting to ask you more about the Appelt family. I have found some of the older discussions on the Volhynien forum concerning Appelts, including posts from you and Ansgar, and I have started finding records for Marianna Appelt's family as well.

gefunden habe ich die Familie durch eine Suche in den bereits indexierten Büchern, wie den sonst?

Es lässt sich nicht feststellen, wo die Familie PEHL/PÖHL zwischen 1867 und 1879 lebte, das Kirchspiel Nowy Dwor scheinen sie verlassen zu haben. Das sind immerhin 11 Jahre. In dieser Zeit mögen noch mehr Kinder geboren worden sein oder Kinder sind verstorben, genau wie Michaels erste Frau Eva. Seine Mutter, Eva geb. DREWS, blieb bei ihren anderen Kindern. Ich fand noch den Sohn Josef PEHL (Heirat 1876/19), der auch im Ort Podlesie lebte.

ich habe zufällig dein Posting im anderen Thread gesehen, wo du die Kinder von Christian APPEL und Christine SCHMIDT auflistest. Es fehlen noch Andreas *1869 und Johann *1872. Aus der zweiten Heirat mit Rosalie MÜNCH gehen noch mindestens fünf weitere Konder hervor.

Mit der Heirat APPEL & SCHMIDT hast du Glück. Franzdorf gehörte zum Kirchspiel Pilica, vom dem nur wenige Kirchenbücher erhalten sind.

You are just such a gem! I found Christian's and Christine's marriage record thanks to you and both son's that you said that were missing, Andreas and Johann, and I found one more, Franz born 1866. And also found Christian's and Rosalie's 5 children, Pauline born 1892 in Kislowka, Carl born 1893, Anna born 1895, Leon 1895 all born in Switschewka and Adolf born 1898 in Ruda. In Christian's and Christine's marriage record I have know gone another generation back thanks to you, so my search in Volhynia has left my with lots of family that I did think I'll find. I'm so, so grateful to you. If you ever find anything else, the records keep being digitalized, please let me know and I will also let you know if I'll find something.

Hello Irene!
I forgot one more find: I also found Christian Appelt's death record. He died 16 February 1898 in Swiczewka, aged 72, born in Franzdorf. The index names Rosalie Münch as his wife. His youngest son Adolf was born on 13 August 1898, so Christian died while Rosalie was pregnant with him. I can send/link the record as well if useful.
