Re: Ausgehend von nichts (Antwort)

Hello Kevin,

I think your Rudolph Rinas is my grandfather's older brother, Emil Rinas. Our family heard that Rudolph 1894/1895 went to America and married a woman, changed his surname from Rinas to Manos. I do not know exactly how many children my great-grandfather Gottfried Rinas of 1868 and his wife Agnes Rinas (Buchholz) of 1874/1875, her father Jacob Buchholz. I know a few names Ewald, Ernst (he had a wife of Antony), Emil (my grandfather) 1908 b., Olga, Wanda born in 1906, Marta, she married Emil Sommerfeld. The family spoke on the Lutheran, Lutheran, they are from the East/Westproisen, the city of Lublin in Poland is mentioned. In Volyn they lived in Lyubahin, Marushovka Novograd-Volynsky county. I have some photos battered with time, but you can find out something too.

How far have you come in the search? If there is interest, you can try to look for information on the line of Rinas.

Respectfully, Elena

what makes you think that this Rudolf Rines ist the person you are looking for?

In the manifest his last place of residence is "Labukin" but his place of birth is "Lubakin", but I can't find neither Labukin nor Lubakin.

Re: Ausgehend von nichts (Antwort)

I have finally searched the proper dates and I believe I have found my grandfather under the name Rudolf Rines rather than Rudolf Manos, as he was known later. Who knows what his German/Russian name really was. On the ship passenger list from Trieste, his home is listed as Labukin, Russia. Labukin does not turn up any matches but there are several towns in Volhynia sort of close to that. Does anyone have a studied opinion as to what town may have been interpreted as Labukin when he booked passage in Trieste?

Thank you very much.

Re: Ausgehend von nichts (Antwort)

I have seen quite a number of references in German/Russian genealogy sites to the surname Mannes. That seems to be a fairly common name that could easily be interpreted as Manos, although it would depend on where the misspelling or misinterpretation actually took place. Nobody entered Ellis Island under the name Rudolf or Rudolph Mannes either, so that's of limited help even if that is the correct name.

Re: Ausgehend von nichts (Antwort)

Thanks for the reply Ansgar. Most of what I have is heresay or based on later documents. I don't know what his family name was in Germany or Russia, but he continued to use Manos for the rest of his life. I assume he was single when he arrived in USA because he married my grandmother in 1924.

He put on a form in 1942 that he arrived in America in 1919. I find that odd since he petitioned for naturalization at Camp Upton in 1919 and was naturalized, once again going by what he put on a form in 1942, in 1920 in New York City.

The only reference I have to his hometown is on his naturalization petition and it is listed as Wolen, Russia, which I take to mean Wolhyn. He also claims to have left from the port of Trieste, but I cannot find his name or anything similar on any passenger lists out of Trieste during that period. I don't even know if he went to South America and then ended up in New York later.

Thank you!

Hello Kevin

It seems to be that Manos is a mistake in writing or reading in the past.
It might be Maron

In the odessa I´ve found
Manon, Ferdinand oo 9 Feb 1878 in Roshischtsche Sommerfeld, Christine

but all their children were written as Maron

On Ellis Island I` ve found Rudolf Maron arrived in 1914 New York
he is 22 years old his wife called Auguste...
Does it sound familar to you ???

Which information do you have from the immigration record ???

regards from Germany

Kevin
